The Compound

While I wait out some job uncertainty, I'm camped out at The Compound. (Sounds a bit intimidating, no?) There's a root cellar, a pizza oven, two wood shops, three little homes, a tiny creek, two kitties, five dogs, seven humans, and one huge garden. The property is at the base of a towering red rock ridge and I scramble to the top of it on my tip-toes every day. It's quiet and I'm digging it.

28 !

Happy Birthday !

In my 27th year I SURE LEARNED A LOT. I learned to take care of my teeth and my finances and a thing or two about love. I lived out of a suitcase, took a LOT of plane-rides, drove across country, edited a magazine, hunkered down with my family, and lost one of my two dads. The thing about adversity is that it really shifts perspective—today I'm stoked on warm sunshine and my sweet puppy and good health. Cliche, no? Also I got this great poloroid camera for my birthday... so!

Sunday Rain

On Sunday afternoon it POURED. After a long, leisurely brunch at Olivia's, I came home to a thunder storm deluge, an icy kombucha drink and a book.

June

Last night was the first night I've stayed in since Ben left. I cleaned the house, listened to loud music, watched Mad Men, and made soup. I love you friends, but a night alone was GLORIOUS.

The Island

I've been going out to Kiawah a lot for work. It's a healthy forty five minutes out of town but I always look forward to the drive. The island is quiet and perfectly manicured and everyone knows everyone's name. Island life ain't bad.

Sweet Home

After 17 hours of travel, we arrived home late last night. This little darling was wiggling ununcontrollably when we came through the door.

I went to sleep still rocking with the motion of the boat after so many days on the ocean.

Late Start

The Garden Summer screening went SWIMMINGLY. The theater was enormous and beautiful, all my favorite people came to watch, and the audience erupted with laughter more times than I can count. It amazes me that other people think my movie is funny. What a wonderful feeling it is to make people laugh!

I have a little post-screening fuzziness and am getting a late start this morning. Nothing a kombucha smoothie can't fix. Have a great day!

Bridge Running

I  have been running a lot lately. There is a particularly long route where I run from my house over this magnificent bridge. From it you can see the pointed peninsula of Charleston, the barrier islands, and long stretches of marsh turning green in the warm weather.

It's a hefty run but I've started love it so much that I feel a little blue when it's a rest day. Here are some Instagram photos!

Dinner Party

I was groomed to throw dinner parties from a VERY young age. I was pondering over lighting, seating, and guest counts before I learned long-division.

This particular dinner party was perfect. We laughed and drank and cozied up next to one another into the wee hours.

Spring

This time of year I wake up a little happier and go to bed a little more content. The roasted veggies help. So does the smell of jasmine. And dogwood trees. And let's not forget evening bike rides, outdoor brunches, and sun kissed shoulders. I LOVE SPRING.

Also here is Ben in a new shirt with a carrot. CUTE.

Quiet and Clean

IS IT JUST ME OR IS 2012 A DOOZY?  The fall of 2011 plodded along but when January hit MAN THINGS STARTED HAPPENING. Does anyone else feel the same?

Ben and I have had a series of (wonderful) house guests for the last three weeks and it has been fun and busy. I will say, though, how lovely it is to have a clean and quiet house. I've been reveling in it.

Also, see this picture of Ben and I below? These are our PRE-COSTA RICA FACES!

*Sorry for all the caps. I'm terribly excitable and honestly—I'd write everything in caps if I could

The Loop

This is Luna. Everyone calls her Tutti. I've had her four years and she's never needed a leash. Our twice-a-day ritual is this loop around the block. She sniffs and squats and every once in a while goes crashing off after a neighborhood cat. It's probably the most peaceful thing I do each day.

beach sunday mimosas

Perfect Sunday. My wild and crazy friends caravanned to the beach with a jug'o'mimosa.
We needed few 'beachy shots' for a catalog and so we gave it our best.
There was a vintage bronco and everything!
