Botanical Gardens

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDENS? Mama was in heaven. We covered the placards and quizzed her. On the money every time.

The gardens stretch across 250 acres. Endless quiet lawns, shady promenades, century-old trees, and lady gardens to die for.

Walkabout

My mama and I do long lunches REALLY WELL. We also love a good long walk and a strong afternoon cup of coffee. Here we are doing what we do best.

Lunch at Pastis! A stroll around the West Village! Coffee at La Colombe! Parfait.

The Highline

Mama came to New York and the first thing on her list was the Highline. It's an old freight line turned sky-walk on the West Side. It really is glorious. My mother is a bit of a horticulture snob and she was in absolute heaven. I'd be walking along and realize she was stalled out and muttering botanical names to herself.

Casa Mono

I live upstairs from a restaurant and wine bar brother and sister—Casa Mono and Bar Jamon. I have spend MANY long evenings at Bar Jamon but last night was my first time at Casa Mono. My mother is in town and I've been saving it for her.  It has a Michelin star and the food was RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. We even tried the rabbit...

chambre de brique

I found this great little place on Airbnb and I couldn't be happier. It's on East 17th Street and THERE'S EVEN A GREAT WINEBAR DOWNSTAIRS.

It's small, of course, but there's a great view, a lot of brick, wood floors and an all white, downy queen by the window. The kitchen is no kitchen at all but c'est la vie.

NYC

I've been in New York City for the past two weeks and damnit IT'S BEEN BUSY. I've picked up my camera one time for this stroll to La Columbe, a beautiful coffee shop in the West Village.

This city amazes me. I've never moved at such a pace and I'm not sure how I'll go back to sleepy-brunch-beach-Belmont Charleston after a month like this. SO forgive me if the posts are sporadic—I'm swimming in it!
